  • Name: Honora Buras

About: I am recently retired from the State of Louisiana after working there for the past 23 years, primarily in coastal ecosystem restoration planning, forest conservation, hazard mitigation using green and gray infrastructure, and Traditional Ecological Knowledge. I am currently engaged with several non-profits and State initiatives in Louisiana on watershed planning, water quality, land use, land conservation, climate adaptation, environmental justice, environmental education, and cultural preservation as a citizen volunteer. My degrees are in Horticulture and Botany from LSU where I also was curator of the Herbarium and managed the Ornamental Research Division at the Burden Experiment Station. I am a founding board member of the local Master Naturalist chapter and active with the La. hub of the Gulf South for a Green New Deal, Bayou Culture Collaborative, and the La. Watershed Initiative. My passions are trees, indigenous cultures, justice, and travel.
