Name: Susan Shay
About: I am an experienced registered architect from the United States completing a PhD at the University of Cambridge in Heritage. My research explores examples within contemporary history of politically and economically motivated attempts to manipulate heritage lands, the ensuing legal battles, and the resultant cultural transformations. My interest is in the identification of factors that stimulate community involvement, motivate legal response to cultural change, foster transformation in cultural heritage value, and inspire modern collective identity. My research is supported by many years in design and construction, work for the U.S. Government in disaster recovery, a Master’s Degree in Historic Preservation from Columbia University, and work toward a second Master’s Degree in Real Estate Development at New York University.
