Kevin Shafer lead a discussion of how Milwaukee is using green infrastructure to keep up with changing precipitation patterns, population growth, and land use changes. Water can no longer only be managed by building bigger pipes and treatment facilities. Urban water management must evolve to an approach of managing water where it falls and consider the entire drainage area regardless of political boundaries. Milwaukee, Wisconsin started using green infrastructure approaches in 2002 and is integrating these efforts into the infrastructure fabric of the region.
